As the 18th plenary of the Associations of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) started with Holy Mass Monday morning, August 24, 2021, the presiding celebrant Fr. Stephen Omondi has highlighted that they should note should know their role as Religious and members of the association.
Fr. Omondi said the intention to become a nun or priest may be good but what it may also be corrupted along the way in a particular context or institutionalized system.
“Upon joining Sisterhood or ACWECA, the intention may be perfect. For me to become a priest initially I was in a state of original innocence which is the opposite of original sin. We may have all the good intentions but on the way get corrupted as the letter of Saint Paul puts it.”
However, Fr. Omondi quoted the story of Saint Paul on his way to Damascus who started off with the intention of killing the Christians in Damascus but afterwards he was converted, adding that as they have come for the plenary they should go back with the original good intention they started with.
He invited members of ACWECA members to offer themselves as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God in their day to day life, adding that there are three things that make true prophet and these are justice, mercy and faithfulness
He calls on ACWECA members who have assembled for the plenary to be guided by the true spirit of sacrifice, love, endurance and faithfulness.
“May the true spirit of sacrifice, love, endurance and faithfulness of our lord Jesus Christ and the model of our Mather Mary be your guide. Especially this year, we are also celebrating St. Joseph who is also a model for us, a quiet but active man in his faith.”
The assembly which started with the Holy mass this Monday morning shall end on Friday with the Eucharistic celebration presided by His Grace Bert van Megen the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan.
