TANZANIA CATHOLIC ASSOCIATION OF SISTERS, (TCAS)
The Tanzania Catholic Association of Sisters, (TCAS) is a council of Mother Generals, regional, provincials, delegates and Prioresses representing their various Congregations and Societies of Apostolic Life. It is an organ for fostering unity of Sisters in Tanzania irrespective of their individual religious charism, spirituality and source of origin. As an Ecclesial body, TCAS relates with the Vatican through the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, (CICLSAL).
The Association was founded in 1963 with the aim of facilitating the activities of the members on matters concerning the development of the Church and community at large. To date, membership to TCAS has grown to about 86 active congregations with more than 12,000 sisters serving in Tanzania. The membership of the congregations is composed of local Congregations (diocesan right), missionary and Apostolic Societies.
Today as a national body for religious women, TCAS is a fully registered entity under the Society’s Act of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Due to the geographical size of Tanzania and the need for easy administration, TCAS has been divided into six regions namely;
- Northern Zone
- Lake Zone
- Southern Zone
- Eastern Zone
- Western zone, and
- Central zone.
