SUDAN SISTERS’ ASSOCIATION (SSA)

The Sudan Sisters Association is an Association made of all the congregations of Religious Sisters working in different dioceses in the Sudan. The Association started since the 1980s in Juba, South Sudan.

The Association has a membership of nine (9) religious congregations of local and international congregations with a total number of well over 80 sisters who are serving in the Sudan. The Sisters serve in the two dioceses of Khartoum and El Obeid.

The Identity of SSA

The Sudan Sisters Association is an Ecclesial body for Women Religious which relate to the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, (CICLSAL). The establishment and development of this Association was with the encouragement and full approval of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SCBC).

Due to the political situation that led to the cessation of South Sudan from the Sudan, the two countries now have different national associations – South Sudan Sisters’ Association (SSSA) and the Sudan Sisters’ Association. This division took place in 2011 when South Sudan got independence.

Aim of the Association
  • The Association is a free union of sisters for the common good of the Church
  • To share our different experiences among ourselves.
  • To share and participate in the activities of the ACWECA Region.
  • To enhance the ability of sisters as religious women in different areas in our world of today.
  • To work in communion with the Bishop’s conference of the country where the sisters are serving.
The activities
  • To give workshops, seminars for the sisters
  • Organising joint annual retreats with Religious Association of the Superiors, (RASA).
  • Looking for a way forward to create self-help or micro-finance programmes for the Association so that it can support itself.

To be witnesses in our changing world of today.

MISSION

To enhance the ability of the Sisters as religious women in different areas of our apostolates in the Sudan.
