ASSOCIATION OF SISTERHOODS OF KENYA (AOSK)

The Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) is an umbrella association for consecrated women founded in 1962. It is an ecclesiastical organisation of pontifical right, which directly relates to the Holy See under the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, (CICLSAL) that oversees issues related to religious life worldwide.

The Association is duly recognised by the Catholic Church and is a registered cooperative body under the (perpetual Succession Act). The foundation of the Association in the 1960s at the wish of the Holy See and the felt need of the women religious, helps members of the Association to find unity in strength through mutual collaboration with one another.

Registered Member Congregations

The Association has a total of over 150 registered member congregations, out of which 90 are active congregations with over 5,505 religious women. The membership is widely spread within the 25 Catholic dioceses and the 47 counties in Kenya.

A dynamic Association of empowered Prophetic women religious living Gospel values.

MISSION

To foster mutual support and promote holistic formation of women religious for authentic witness through sustainable programmes in collaboration with stakeholders.

CENTRES

The Association has two main Centres namely Tumaini and Chemchemi ya Uzima. Tumaini Centre is home to the National Secretariat, AOSK Justice and Peace office as well as African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC).

The Center is strategically located and is available for hire for various short and long term trainings, retreats and reflection as well as for other events.

Chemchemi Ya Uzima

Meanwhile, Chemchemi meaning “Fountain of Living Waters” is positioned at Bogani Road. Most of the Sisters’ programmes are run there. Some of the various programmes conducted at Chemchemi include:

2.Formation of Formators

During the holidays the centre is sometimes used for retreats and reflections as well.
