Sr. Grace Kyomugisha of Our Lady of Good Counsel from Uganda is the president of the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA).
She replaces Sr. Rosalia Sakayombo who has run the association for the past three years.
And Sr. Auxilia Hokororo is the new vice president who has replaced Sr. Agnes Jonas from Malawi.
The two were elected on Thursday during the 19th plenary assembly of the association in Lilongwe and announced on Friday at the end of the association’s 19th assembly.
In her acceptance speech, Sr. Kyomugisha urged all the national associations of consecrated women in the ACWECA region to grow and walk together for the association’s mission.
“I urge you, let us grow, walk and work together by deepening our charisms of our congregations. Let us keep the candle burning,” she said.
The outgoing president, Sr. Rosalia Sakayombo thanked the association for supporting her during her three year tenure and urged all the Sisters to support the new leadership.
The new president received a Bible and the association’s constitution as tools for her new job.
ACWECA held its 19th plenary assembly and golden jubilee celebration in Lilongwe from August 19 to 23.
