Consecrated women in East and Central Africa donated rice, milk, cooking oil, beans, maize flour, baking flour, washing soap and sugar to single mothers and elderly at Nkoroi Catholic Parish, Ngong Diocese.

Speaking during the donation exercise, the finance officer, Sr Betty Grace Atim said that single women need to be taken care of because they face a lot of challenges in society and this has been heightened by Covid-19.

“The most affected are single mothers who run small businesses but due to the impact of Covid-19, their businesses have gone down and others have been closed. Some of these single mothers struggle to feed their children and to get the basic necessities of life, and now even what is required to protect themselves from contracting Covid-19,” she said.

The ACWECA Finance Officer thanked their partner the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for responding positively to the needs of these crying mothers.

“I am grateful that the support has truly helped ACWECA t live its mission of solidarity and sharing of economic resources with needy single mothers as well as promoting their dignity, hence evangelization,” she said.

The parish priest, Fr. Boniface Kimondolo O.Carm. expressed gratitude to ACWECA for always thinking of Nkoroi Catholic Parish and the needy people.

“Thank you very much for always thinking of us and the needy people. This is a good thing for them to have a plate of food on the table for some days. I am really happy and I thank God for that,” thanked Fr. Boniface.

Two Single mothers who also received the assistance did not hide their excitement.

“We are so happy, we have been going through tough times and the donation came as a surprise for us. We thank ACWECA for doing this for us and may God bless the sisters abundantly,” they said.

The total number of single mothers who received the donation were over 108. The finance officer, Sr Betty explained that much as they had initially thought of assisting only single mothers of Nkoroi Catholic Parish, the donation was also extended to non-Catholic families neighboring the parish and the elderly.
