About Us
The Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa, unites and empowers consecrated women from diverse religious congregations. Committed to fostering spiritual growth, solidarity, and social justice, ACWECA promotes collaboration, addresses challenges, and undertakes impactful initiatives in education, healthcare, and advocacy. Through retreats and conferences, ACWECA strengthens the bond among its members, creating a supportive community dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities in the region.
Our Programs:
Spiritual Formation and Education:
- Provide regular spiritual retreats, workshops, and seminars focused on deepening the faith and spirituality of consecrated women.
- Offer theological and pastoral training to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Catholic doctrine and evangelization strategies.
- Facilitate opportunities for ongoing spiritual growth through prayer groups, Bible study sessions, and mentorship programs.
Leadership Development:
- Organize leadership training programs tailored to the specific needs of consecrated women, nurturing their skills in areas such as pastoral leadership, communication, and decision-making.
- Foster a culture of servant leadership, emphasizing humility and a commitment to serving others as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
- Encourage consecrated women to take on leadership roles within their communities, dioceses, and the wider Church, empowering them to become effective evangelizers and role models.
Missionary Outreach and Evangelization Initiatives:
- Develop and support evangelization projects that address the unique needs of local communities and regions, engaging consecrated women in hands-on missionary work.
- Encourage consecrated women to identify and respond to the spiritual and social challenges of our times, promoting a proactive approach to evangelization.
- Provide resources, tools, and guidance to help consecrated women effectively share the Gospel message in a culturally relevant and compassionate manner, both within their congregations and in the broader society.
Community Building and Support:
- Establish a supportive network and community where consecrated women can connect, share experiences, and provide mutual encouragement.
- Offer mentorship and peer support programs to guide newly consecrated women in their vocational journey.
- Organize regular gatherings, conferences, and forums to facilitate collaboration and the exchange of best practices among consecrated women from diverse backgrounds and congregations.

“The Plenary Assembly will be held in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, in 2024. This will be a two-tier celebration as ACWECA will be marking 50 years since its inception,” said Sr Sakayombo.
